IGEN-EA Calls for Empowering Women in Green Economic Sectors on International Women's Day

On International Women's Day 2024, the Inclusive Green Economy Network-East Africa (IGEN-EA) urged East African governments to invest in green economic sectors that drive women's economic participation. The network, comprising civil society organizations and private sector entities, highlighted barriers such as limited land ownership, lack of access to clean energy, and insufficient childcare support that hinder women's involvement in organic agriculture, renewable energy, tourism, and fisheries. IGEN-EA called for policies and programs that enhance women's access to land, affordable clean energy, training opportunities, and childcare facilities, enabling them to fully participate in and benefit from the green economy transition in the region.
